Hey folks! Today was very exciting. I've been nominated for Governor's Honors Program (GHP) in Communicative Arts! Hurray! I went to the information meeting today and now I really really REALLY wanna go!!! It sounds like so much fun. So I'm working on my application, and let's hope I get past the preliminary interviews! The only thing I'm worried about is my application essay being a little TOO creative. I'm asking my GHP advisor to look it over so I know whether I should keep going in the very... INTERESTING direction I've been going in (hey, I want to be remembered!), or if I should scrap it and be a bit more professional and formal. We'll see what he says!
On the subject of Lit lovin', I wanna take a bit to talk about words. Vocabulary. I love it. Dictionaries are my best friend. Not the online, search-one-word-and-you're-done sites. The gigantic, 60-pound books that are dusty and full of words that nobody uses anymore and 99% of people don't give a flying flip about. Needless to say, I am one of the 1%. I learn words fast. I rarely get below a 100 on vocab tests, or anything that is word-intensive for that matter. One or two looks at a root and I can list at least 5 words in which it is present, and I guarantee you I'll be excited about it. Today I discovered that "lingu" is a Latin root that means tongue, and it is present in the word "linguine". Forget "linguistics" and "bilingual", noodles were etymologically derived from the word for tongue! Ahhh!!! It was such an exciting revelation, and it made so much sense to me. This is my relationship with language. Whenever I hear a cool word that I don't know, I scribble it down in one of my (many) notebooks and look it up, adding it to my mental word bank. It's how I operate. It's what I love.
That's it for now!
