PROMPT: Which is softer, a kitten's fur or a cotton ball?

Close your eyes and imagine that you are lying in bed, reading a good book. You are snuggled in, cozy and warm. Suddenly, you hear the soft padding of tiny paws across the floor. You feel a muted thump on the bed as a sweet little ball of white fluff launches itself up and lands beside you. It's your pet kitten. She nuzzles your arm and climbs into your lap, her little form vibrating with purrs.

Your tiny friend's downy fur tickles your skin. The feeling of her warm, small body reminds you of snowflakes on your eyelashes; of defrosting by the fire after a chilly day of winter fun. Her tail snakes and twitches, brushing your nose and making you giggle. Her feathery fluff feels silky on your palms as you stroke her, running your hands from the tips of her fuzzy ears to the end of her animated tail.

Now imagine stroking a cotton ball. Weird, right? Its fibers are soft, but they feel squeaky and awkward in your fingers. You run it along your cheek, but all it reminds you of is the doctor's office. the cotton feels cold and still in your cupped hands, despite its fuzzy exterior. It smells of rubbing alcohol and antibiotic ointment.

Now open your eyes, and answer for me this question: Which is softer, a kitten's fur, or a cotton ball?
